This word “joins” is very rich in meaning and clear in requirement. This “joining” with the Lord is the closest personal union that can occur. Picture, in your mind, two pieces of wood! The carpenter puts glue on both and “joins” them together. The longer they stay together, the stronger and more sure the bond. One can still see each piece, yet they are no longer thought of as “separate” pieces. Wherever one goes, the other is “bound” to go. Whatever one encounters or endures, the other will also. They each add their strength and beauty to each other. In the joining, one gives up his/her individuality to form a whole “new” identity. So it is with those who “join” themselves to the Lord. Selah.
