Treasured Vignettes
“Thou art fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Thy lips; therefore God has blessed Thee forever.” Psalm 45:2
This whole psalm is a wedding song about the king and his bride. As we read this psalm, we find a choosing of the bride, a dressing of the bride, a presenting of the bride and the future of the bride. The Church, which is spoken of as the Bride of Christ, will realize through Jesus Christ all the blessings of the Bride.
Because the “favor” of the Lord rests upon the Bride, “gladness and rejoicing” come to those around her. When we Christians, the Bride, forsake all else, i.e., “our people and our father’s house” (a likeness to worldliness and sin), to become the King’s desire, then not only do we receive gifts, our favor is sought. Why? Because the King has given us His grace and we can be gracious to others.
People want to make a name for them selves, to leave a mark on human history. When we attempt this apart from God’s grace, like the grass—here today, gone tomorrow—we are remembered no more. But if we, because of God’s grace, become ministers of His grace, though our name is not remembered, our godly graciousness will have left its mark on humankind. Our glory will be kept in heaven; His glory will remain as a testimony for future generations. And, future generations will be grateful. Selah.
