How has God demonstrated His righteousness? “Through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith . . . in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed.” And this righteousness has been given as a gift, “even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe. . .” (Romans 3)
God, because He is righteous, set up “law” so that “the earth” (natural law) and “the heavens” (spiritual law) would rightly function bringing about the fullness of life and joy He intended. Sin (“missing” the law) and transgression (breaking the law) violated the purpose and plan of God. Jesus Christ came to set things right again, and, those who believe and are justified through His blood, now are free to live in righteousness as children of their Father, “the Lord our righteousness.” Selah.
