Treasured Vignettes
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 6:1
Every one of us enjoys being appreciated for the good and right things we do. However, the notice and applause of people can become an opiate to a vibrant faith and a stumbling block to total obedience to the Lord. Our righteousness, our future and spiritual well-being is birthed through the suffering and selfless sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God’s Son. And, He is “the first among many brethren;” for we, His disciples are called to the same path of righteousness—“If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” We, Christians, must be alert and wise in guarding our hearts and minds against seeking rewards here on earth, when our Father has greater rewards for us in heaven. Selah.
