First and most important, we are to love God. Why? Because He loved us first, before anyone else. He put us first over His creation and to us, even as sinners, He gave His Son to die for us so that nothing could keep us from enjoying His love. And, He wants us to love those around us in the same way as we love ourselves. You don't want to be betrayed, or lied about, or stolen from or murdered, do you? Genuine love, divine love, does none of these things to another. Think about it.
