Treasured Vignettes
“And God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” Genesis 1:28
This was God’s charge given the first Adam. A charge he and Eve, by their disobedience, corrupted. The second Adam, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:19), was given all authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:20-22; Colossians 1:16). What flesh (humankind) was unable to accomplish, Jesus Christ, the God-Man, would. Every miracle testified of His authority to “rule and subdue” all creation. When Christ returned to our heavenly Father, He sent “another Helper,” the Holy Spirit, who would help God’s people to accomplish their fist charge, Genesis 1:28. Jesus, Our Lord, charged us to make disciples “of all nations,” in effect multiplying and filling the whole earth. He charged His disciples to teach “all He commanded,” fulfilling by obedience, what Adam and Eve did not. And, because His Spirit dwells in those who believe, Christ, the God-Man, lives in us and we are, by faith, able to fulfill His commission. Think about it.
