Choices and A Clear Conscience
Treasured Vignettes

"For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." Romans 5:10-11

When we are born into this world (conception being the introduction), every child expects to be cared for and to be kept safe. That is a God-created expectation that springs from God's goodness and fairness. But every child has three enemies not just one like Adam and Eve. For when Adam and Eve chose to give into temptation and sin, they loosed evil into the world and gave their authority to the sinful nature. The enemies of every child are the devil, the world, and the flesh (sinful nature). When you, as a child, first discovered that your life was not safe and you were not fully cared for, as you expected, that is when Satan presented the questioning proposition about God's goodness and fairness. Even as a child, a person makes choices and many of us made the choice to doubt God and to disbelieve His truth because of the pain we received from the blows of the enemies of our soul. Like Adam and Eve, when we chose to doubt God's goodness and fairness and respond in a sinful way to those hurtful experiences, our hearts became captive to evil, our spirits dead in trespasses and sin; our bodies subject to corruption and death. God's goodness and fairness did not desist just because we chose a sinful response, but He has persisted through His loving nature, exhibited in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, to bring the "truth" to us that we might once again have fullness of joy and a clear conscience. Think about it.
