The Genetics Of Character
Treasured Vignettes

“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles are they?” Matthew 7:16ff

The kind of tree is determined by its complex and peculiar genetic structure which is found in the heart of its every cell. In the same way, the character of a person is designated by the complex and peculiar structure of his/her belief system, which is found in the very heart of that person. Just as the kind of tree is revealed through its fruit, the words and actions of a person often reveal his/her belief system.

A wise orchard keeper will destroy the “bad” trees and cultivate the “good” trees because the bad trees mean ruination, in part or whole, of the orchard and loss. Agriculturally speaking, that just makes “good sense.” It is not up to the trees to inspect each other so as to determine each one’s destiny. Each tree will bear fruit and reveal itself as “good” or “bad.” It is the orchard keeper’s job to determine the destiny of a tree. Metaphorically speaking, like a “good tree” receives life from the master orchard keeper; a “good Christian” lives by “every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God,” and produces fruit after his/her “kind” (character). Think about it.
