There is a traditional saying in the Church, “Hate the sin, love the sinner.” But, more often than we would like to admit, in our enthusiasm to hate sin, we reveal another’s transgression, leaving the sinner open to ridicule, judgment and alienation rather than to restoration. Covering a transgression does not mean we let sin go unaddressed. It means that “we who are spiritual” are careful and respectful in the correction and restoration process of the sinner (See Galatians 6:1). True love provides protection in discipline, gentleness in correction and hope for renewed fellowship. Think about it.
