God is the Lord God Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, the Righteous Judge, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Wise Counselor, the Alpha and Omega, etc., etc. He loves the world and sacrificed Himself for mankind’s redemption and reconciliation to Him. However, He gives His friendship, not to all, but to those who “do what I command you.” He chooses His friends and appoints them to “go and bear fruit” in keeping with His purposes. Only His friends can ask “whatever” of His Father, “in His name,” that the Father may “give to them.” And, the command Jesus gives his friends is that we love one another, out of love for Him and respect for the Father, out of the union of friendship we have with God. Think about it.
