"For John the Baptist told you to repent and turn to God, and you wouldn't, while very evil men and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to repent, and so you couldn't believe." Matthew 21:32

The religious leaders of Jesus' day needed a change of heart and mind because they were not believing in God but their traditions. They couldn't recognize the Messiah because they thought their works could save them. Their faith was not in God alone. One has to recognize their condition before they are open to change. God's love and kindness draws us to the recognition. We recognize that we have tried to reach God by our own means and missed. That is when we can see God reaching toward us. Repentance is the first act of faith by a person. Repentance strengthens our faith, renews our minds and brings us into close relationship to God. Repentance opens the door for God to rescue us and bless us. When we give up control of our lives and relationships to God, we can walk in the freedom of His Lordship. Think about it.
