Many have been asking why there seems to be a lack of spiritual power in the modern church of Jesus Christ today. Is it because of our lack of knowledge of the living God? More often than not, if we are lacking in our knowledge God, we can become legalistic with the knowledge we do have, thus, limiting, you might say, God with our own limitations. If my faith is small, I may make my God small so He can fit into it. Yet God is not limited! Not by my faith or my
knowledge. And if I allow myself time to consider Him as He is-Lord of the
universe, Creator of all things, etc., the scope of my faith is magnified, my hope enlarged. It appears that in this modern era, we are so busy we seldom, if ever, devote enough time to Our Lord to
know Him more, hear His voice or experience His presence. We are too much "Martha" and too very, very little "Mary" (Luke 10:38-42). We have become distracted by our elaborate "services" rather than choosing to spend time in His presence, listening to Him. We become bothered and irritated with those who choose to be with Him over helping us with our ministerial busyness and/or our burdensome church activities. Because of our anxiety about church growth, popularity, fund-raising, good causes, etc., we have become critical and condemning of those who do not
immediately jump into our frenzy of evangelistic programs. Have we forgotten that our faith is
from Him, is to be
in Him and is all
about Him? It seems that man, once again, finds himself trying to be like God by delighting in the creature rather than the Creator. Is this why the modern church finds herself destitute of spiritual power when it is most needed? Think about it.
