Treasured Vignettes
"These people say they honor me, but their hearts are far away." Matthew 15:8
Yesterday I learned a new definition for "hypocrite." A hypocrite is one who refuses to have a change of heart about Jesus Christ, yet pretends to be godly. Jesus wants us to drop all pretense and love God and believe in Him sincerely. That takes a willingness to change AND an active movement to transformation. I cannot stubbornly hold onto fleshly or worldly affections and attitudes and be a child of God. That is hypocrisy. Even though I may falter and fall into sin, if I am dedicated to following Christ, I will be changing and maturing in faith and obedience to His teachings. There will be evidence! I will become more loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, a doer of good works, faithful, gentle and self-controlled. These evidences will not just appear when I am with a certain group or at a certain time. These evidences will spring from my heart into every moment of my life. Think about it.
