The Greatest Wisdom of All

Treasured Vignettes

"fear God and obey His commandments" (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

Solomon, the "wisest" man to rule, realized at the end of his life the greatest wisdom of all--"fear God and obey His commandments, for this is the entire duty of man. For God will judge us for everything we do, including every hidden thing, good or bad." The book of revelation ends with the charge, "worship God." Through enjoyment of both blessing and suffering through all of life, give yourself to worship of God and obedience to His commandments. All else is vanity, all else is temporal and passing away. No one can recapture or relive one moment from yesterday. We remember but little and soon that will pass into our sub-conscious unless the Lord revive it. What will we do with this moment? Will we honor God or spend it foolishly? Our God is "I AM." He should occupy the first place in our moments. I have lived close to 23,000 days and in those days I have lived more than 33 million moments. How much has been wasted striving with God instead of walking with Him? How many foolish words have been uttered, empty thoughts ruminated, fruitless deeds done? God knows, I do not remember.

But for the loving kindness of our God and Savior we would face death and hell as our future. By His grace, He has given His children wisdom to trust in Him, reverence Him and obey His commandments. He will give to all who ask the same and give it liberally. "A wise man's heart leads him to do right, and a fool's heart leads him to evil" (Eccl. 10:2, LB). God will judge everything we do. Nothing is hidden from His eyes. Man is easily deceived but God is Truth!

Be more than content with the life God has laid out for you, be grateful. Be grateful for the pleasure and the pain, the drought and the rain; for God has sent both to show you that He alone is God and there is no one besides Him. Blessed are the ones who "delight in doing every thing God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on His laws and thinking about how to follow Him more closely" (Psalm 1:2). Think about it.
