Treasured Vignettes
"Now we rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God--all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done in dying for our sins--making us friends of God" (Romans 5:11, LB).
I remember going to school for the first time, being afraid and uncertain because I didn't know any body. But I found another person who was as afraid as I was and we became friends. Instead of perceiving school as something scary, now, it was something new and wonderful because I had a friend with whom to share it. Isn't that one of the many treasures of friendship, sharing life together? My school friend didn't have any special ability to help me through the school year, but her friendship was a comfort as we both tried to learn and grow.
Jesus Christ made it possible to have a friendship with God. God is the One who created this earth and all around it and in it. He's the One who has a great plan for those He loves, that's you and I, and the ability to help us through to its completion. The sin(s) that became a barrier between Our God and us human beings, through our rebellion and disobedience of God, had to be removed for our friendship to be reconciled. And that's just what God did! God's Son, Jesus Christ, removed the power of sin over our lives. He made a whole new, wonderful life for us when we turned to Him and gave our trust to Him.
Dear, fellow Christian, are you rejoicing over your relationship with God? Or are you too busy criticizing your brethren, gossiping, striving for power and recognition in your church, whining and complaining about trivial, temporary issues? Are you fearing what man can do to you, so you keep your brethren, and God, at a distance? Have you come to neglect and/or avoid times of devotion to God through prayer and Scripture study and meditation? Are you as neglectful of your human friends as you are of God? What a lonely and even dangerous position to be in! Life in this world is uncertain, at times scary. Don't you need a strong, protective and close friend with you? Turn around, quickly, and find Your friend, God, He's right there beside you! Think about it.
