Treasured Vignettes
"And a large crowd soon gathered where Jesus was; but as they saw the man sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, they were frightened... and the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go away and leave them alone!" Mark 5:15-17LB
Often when people are witnesses to miracles or the supernatural power and authority of God, they do become frightened. For the power of God breaks in on accepted tradition or familiar practice. He disrupts what has come to be ordinary and comfortable to us. The one born blind receives his sight--what does that mean? The suffering endured day after day is removed--now what? The madman, who has frightened us is totally changed! We are alarmed at the suddenness of it and how it came about.
When the presence and activity of God interrupts your comfort zone, even if that comfort zone is destructive, are you receptive with joy and thanksgiving or fearful that you may have to live a "new" way of life? Think about it.
