Treasured Vignettes
"And calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, 'Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.'" Mark 12:43-44(NAS)
God doesn't want your leftovers! That is what the religious leaders and many of the rich and famous were giving God at the time of Jesus' ministry on earth. Are we guilty of that today? We Christians (especially American Christians) are very well off, even the poorest of us. Jesus asked the religious young rich man to sell all he had and follow Him [accompany Him as a disciple]. Would you do that today or are you trying to juggle your love of God and your love of wealth? It won't work! You will end up preferring one over the other. To prefer riches over God will end up costing you your soul. God does not honor your wealth, He honors your devotion to Him. When He gave you life it was for the purpose of pleasing Him (see 1 Thessalonians 4:1-5:22 for example). The one who pleases Him will find eternal life as a reward. But, if you spend your life pleasing yourself, you will be left with grinding your teeth and wailing in torment of your foolishness. God does not want your leftovers and He won't give you His. Think about it.
