Treasured Vignettes
"For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you will not always have Me. She has done what she could; she came beforehand to anoint My body for the burial. And surely, I tell you wherever the good news (the Gospel) is proclaimed in the entire world, what she has done will be told for a memorial of her." Mark 14:7-9 AMP
Her name remains unknown, yet what she did for Jesus Christ remains a memorial of her. We do not know if she was rich or poor, young or old, intelligent or simple, beautiful or plain. We know that what she did was considered by Jesus to be good, beautiful, praiseworthy and noble (v.6). Although there were some followers of Jesus who became angry and critical of this woman's devotional act, Jesus vindicated her and rebuked her critics. We also discover that her act brought out the worst in some of the people who were with Jesus at the time (see verses 4,10,11).
What lessons we can learn from this historical account! Our devotional service to God will be acknowledged and appreciated by Him. We must learn to follow through with our devoted service to Our Lord no matter what angry criticism it may bring, knowing and trusting that the Lord, not man, is our Vindicator and Rewarder. Let us learn that we always have opportunities to help those who are in need; but, to do all we can do for Our God and the honor of His Name. We must come to know and understand that though no one remembers our name, or maybe even what we do, Our God and Lord will set a memorial of us in the spread of the Gospel. Think about it.
