The Distresses of Sin
"Therefore I tell you, her sins, many [as they are]are forgiven her, because she has loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little . . . Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace--in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as a result of sin." Luke 7:47,50 AMP
One of the greatest distresses of sin is that one will be found out--the fear of exposure and the resulting judgment. Those who sin live in fear of being caught. Another distress is shame. The shame of not being what one is intended to be or even aspires to be. The shame that pointing fingers and accusations bring when sin is discovered. The constant anxious work to hide sin is another one of sin's distresses. Then, there is the despair that accompanies the lie that, having once sinned, we can never be free of it again--we are trapped! There is a hopelessness that sin leads us into which encourages destructive activities. And, finally, sin gives us death as a reward when all along it had deceived us into believing that sin was a pleasure that led to life.
Only if our human mind's eye is illuminated by the Spirit of God can we truly see the vile, ugliness and destructiveness of sin on the human life and soul. And, only with the Light of the Gospel will mankind ever find the way out from under sin's control. Think about it.
