Treasured Vignettes
ALL CHOKED UP

"And as for what fell among the thorns, these are [people] who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked and suffocated with anxieties and cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not ripen--come to maturity and perfection" (Luke 8:14 AMP).

Our hearts are ready to receive the Word of God.  We hear it and are in favor of it and receive it.  But, there are other things in the garden patch of our hearts that are given the favor of our attention:  worry and pleasure.  These begin as little shoots but if they are left in their place instead of rooted up and replaced with trust in God and His Word, they grow "just like weeds."  These worries and pleasures begin to overgrow our favoritism for God's Word, overshadowing its glorious rays and sucking out its refreshing moisture, as well as, greedily robbing its nurturing substance.  And so, we grow a little but are stunted, eventually succumbing to the life-robbing power of sin.  When harvest comes (and it will) and fruit is looked for by the Master, it is not found.  And, the soul that had begun so well, is now good for nothing.  (See James 1:2-8; 12-25).  Think about it.
