"What should we do to satisfy God?" (John 6:25ff)
Oh, if that utterance was only upon the lips of every man, woman and child! If only our leaders had that desire burning in their hearts! But like the majority of people in Jesus' time on earth, we really aren't as concerned with pleasing God as satisfying ourselves. And so, the degradation of the human race speeds toward its fulfillment--the wrath of God.
Satisfying God is not like satisfying us. God's satisfaction lies in seeing good; in delighting over the accomplishment of good for all mankind. Our satisfaction lies in appeasement of our lusts and desires to the exclusion of others. The foolish and ignorant man accuses God of selfish motives like his own. But, truly, the Lord God Almighty has continually revealed Himself as the One who does good to others at His expense. Jesus Christ answers the opening question with a simple, straightforward statement: "This is the will of God, that you believe in the one He has sent" (John 6:29). Why? Because He gives life to the world (v.33) that not one, of those the Father has given Him, should be lost but saved and given eternal life(vs.39-40). Think about it.
