THE COCKROACH MENTALITY
"The [basis of the] judgment (indictment, the test by which men are judged, the ground for the sentence) lies in this: that the Light is come into the world, and people have loved the darkness rather than and more than the Light, for their works (deeds) were evil [Isaiah 5:20]" (John 3:19 AMP).
What is the Light that has come into the world but He Who is full of grace and truth, God's only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. "He is the sole expression of the glory of God--the Light-being, the out-raying of the divine--and He is the perfect imprint and image of [God's] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power" (Hebrews 1:3). What is the "darkness" but the blindness of deception, the slavery of sin and the depravity of evil in the heart, mind and soul of man.
The cockroach scurries about in the dark of night, searching for whatever garbage will satisfy his insatiable appetite. But man is NOT an insect! He has been given not instinct but a mind and will which can choose to do what is right and live, or, what is wrong and die under condemnation. Man can choose a cockroach mentality, though, loving his sin yet fearing exposure. "For every wrongdoer hates (loathes, detests) the light and will not come out into the light, but shrinks from it, lest his works--his deeds, his activities, his conduct--be exposed and reproved" (John 3:20).
"Who can be saved," Jesus once was asked. He replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God" (Luke 18:26-27). And this is how God intends, to this day, to save men: "Whoever believes in (trusts, clings to, relies on) Him (Jesus Christ the Son of God) may not perish--come to destruction, be lost--but have eternal (everlasting) life"(John 3:16ff). Think about it.
