INTRODUCING THE UNKNOWN GOD
"Now what you are already worshipping as unknown, this I set forth to you" (Acts 17:23 AMP). (Read also Acts 17:16-33.)
The ignorance of mankind concerning the knowledge of the One True God, YHWH, is astounding! There is obvious evidence about Him all around us, yet we choose not to honor Him. But God has not left us in our ignorance. He has come and walked among us, giving us a visible revelation of Himself, as Jesus Christ. Even then (as now), there were those in that time of history that refused to honor Him.
Athens, in Paul's day, much like the U.S.A. today, is full of idols and people who spend all their leisure time in nothing except telling or hearing something newer than the last (Acts 17:21). The citizens of the U.S., as the Athenians of old, are religious at some point. Their shrines and altars are every where with every turn one makes. They serve their objects of worship with the work of their hands, their imaginations, talents, even with the sacrifices of the lives of their children. These "gods," being of their own creation, must be served for they lack everything--they cannot speak, see or act unless their makers give them power. The people know them well because they made them with their own hands.
It is the commission of every follower of Jesus Christ to make known the One True God, not made by man; the God who made man and all else that exists. He gives mankind life and breath and a future. In the ages before Jesus Christ, men would claim ignorance of the One True Living God. But, since His incarnation and His message, clearly revealed Himself, as well as, His purpose for mankind, there can no longer be such a claim.
America was established by religious men on some of the Biblical principles of God. But, they did not honor God in their hearts and so America, like so many other "great civilizations" was doomed to failure from the beginning. The kingdom of God will not submit to the political whimsies of mankind. The kingdom of God is established and maintained by God alone. His government is ruled by His sovereignty in and through the hearts of those who trust in, rely on, submit to and obey Him. "For in Him we live and move and have our being . . ."(Acts 17:28).
If a person chooses to believe in and rely on this One True God, He will make Himself known to him/her. He will give that person all that He has purposed and promised to give. That includes the ability to be a witness of God in Jesus Christ, introducing Him to those who do not know Him. Think about it.
